Warrington Democrats
Not Left. Not Right.
Forward
All politics is local. Your township, your county and your state depend on citizen participation. The greater that participation, the better the government reflects the will of the people.
“Democracy is not a spectator sport. It is a participatory event. If we don’t participate in it, it ceases to be a democracy.”
Michael Moore
Warrington Democrats joined thousands of protestors in Doylestown and elsewhere in the No Kings protests on March 28.

Tell Senators McCormick and Fetterman to Vote Against the Save Act
The Save Act is a GOP-led effort to make it difficult for likely Democratic voters to cast a ballot. It would affect:
Rural voters
Veterans
Married women who have changed their names
It would also place an unmanageable burden on local election officials, requiring them to verify documents that are difficult and time-consuming to process.
Although the bill passed the House, it’s unlikely to get a filibuster-proof majority of 60 votes in the Senate. Call Senators Fetterman and McCormick and ask them to vote no. (Sen. Fettermanvoted to pass the bill out of committee. He needs to hear from his unhappy constituents.)
You can easily make the calls by going to the 5 Calls website, where you can get their phone numbers and a script.

Warrington Community Ambulance, with just one crew (a paramedic and a EMT), answered 2,800 calls last year. Yet only about 1,800 residents out about 9,900 households responded to the WCA’s annual membership request (about $50 per year.) Local ambulance companies are struggling with rising costs and insufficient funding, said Mark Scholl, chief of operations, Warrington Community Ambulance Corps, at the March meeting of Warrington Democrats. It is difficult to staff ambulance squads because other healthcare fields pay more. The state does not support EMS services and volunteers are in short supply. Insurance companies don’t want to pay more than they already pay for this service, which is not enough to support their operations. Scholl said municipalities will need to fund EMS fully in the future. The Bucks County Herald reported in April that the Chal-Brit EMS is on the verge of insolvency and needs an immediate $300,000 infusion from its member municipalities or it will be unable to meet payroll or maintain operations by the end of the year.
Warrington Board of Supervisors next meets on Tuesday, April 28.

A $55,000 Fishing Expedition that Netted No Fish
This is the first in a continuing series of posts about the many ways Republicans waste your tax dollars—and there are many both past, present and planned for the future. First up is a $55,000 fishing expedition the Republican supervisors undertook as they searched for a campaign issue to use against Democrat Supervisor Ruth Schemm. They came up empty. And Ruth won reelection by about 900 votes!
Here’s what happened:
Township finances are audited every year by an independent outside auditing firm, as required by law. But there were no irregularities found in the audit report and the Republicans thought surely there must be. Afterall, an election was approaching. So, at a cost to taxpayers of $50,000, they engaged the Warrington auditing firm of Bee, Bergvall & Co. to reaudit the township’s books for fiscal years 2018- Sept. 2024 years. Firm partner Cynthia R. Bergvall, CPA, then gave her report publicly at the February 11, 2025, Board of Supervisors. No irregularities were found.
When Republican Supervisor Mike Diorka asked Bergvall what was the bottom line of her findings, Bergvall said, “Your audited financial statements properly reflected the financial state of the township.”
Republican supervisor Vanessa Mauer, who was a delegate for Trump in 2024, tried her best to extract some criticism of the Democrats from Bergvall, but could get none. You might enjoy watching this exchange from the supervisors meeting of February 11, 2025.

In fact, Warrington Democrats had instituted a granular process to account for township spending. Anyone reviewing the accounts could see exactly how money from each account was spent, e.g. general fund disbursement for repairing potholes or capital fund disbursement to upgrade computer systems.
Once the Republicans came to power, they collapsed the categories of spending so anyone looking at the books would not so easily be able to “follow the money.”
Next Up: Auto expenses mismanagement, including the new $100,000 car “needed” for the assistant township manager.
